Before we start to jump into the meat of this writing, I have to admit that I did not come up with this topic on my own. Mr. Ray Hidgon, recruiting and professional rockstar, had touched on this point in one of his posts, and I decided to run with it.
At any rate, it has to deal with how 99% of those that you talk to about your MLM business will blatantly lie to you when the issue about start up costs comes up. Yup, that’s right. They will lie to your face saying that they just don’t have the money right now. And you know how I am absolutely sure about this statement? Just follow along with the example below.
So your prospect is driving to work and all of a sudden they are forced to swerve because of a massive pothole in the middle of the street. This causes them to go up on the curb, slamming on their breaks. Thank goodness they are ok, but the crappy part is that they just popped 2 tires and hit the stop sign at the intersection. This caused them to royally screw up their brakes, and the total damage is $2300.
Do they magically pray to the money fairy and have the $2300 fall into their wallet?
They likely fall into one of three categories. Some will just be good money managers and have the money in their free flowing cash flow to pay for the damages. Others will have to pull it from their savings and emergency fund, which is what that fund is designed for in the first place. And yet, others will likely have to use their credit cards, which is not ideal, but it can be done. In any case, 99% of the people will come up with the money somehow. One percent will not be able to come up with the money due to extenuating circumstances. That means your odds of talking to someone with access to fund a home business is quite high.
Now, whether they want to join is another question, but the reason they usually don’t has to do with fear. It’s either fear that they have been burned in the past, and they don’t want to have it happen again. Or, it’s fear that they don’t want to look like a fool if it turns out to be a scam. Whether you like it or not, or you personally believe otherwise, that’s what your prospects think. Therefore, people are paralyzed by fear.
But this is the big take away here…
IT IS NOT YOUR JOB TO GET THEM PAST THE FEAR!
Your job is to put resources in their hands and let them make a decision. If you are constantly having to reassure them to get started, you will constantly have to reassure them throughout the entire process. Put deadlines in place, and see if they meet them. If they do, you have a team member that is worthy to be on your squad. If they don’t, move on. It really is that simple.
Until next time…
